Dark Fate (2003-2004) is a Mexican telenovela created by Delia Fiallo and Liliana Abud for Las Estrellas, produced by Televisa. Its story follows Mariana Montenegro (Alejandra Barros), who lives under the authority of her powerful father Atilio Montenegro (César Évora Díaz) without knowing that she is not his biological daughter. Her cold, vain aunt Marcia Montenegro (Angélica Rivera) has long mistreated her, while her gentle aunt Isabel (Alma Muriel) has raised her with real love. The engine of the series is the arrival of Ignacio Lugo-Navarro (Jorge Salinas), a magnetic outsider who uses a false name while searching for his roots and vengeance against the family. Each episode of this single-season run of 135 episodes builds through confrontations, romantic tension, and the slow exposure of buried secrets. Its tone is melodramatic and emotionally heightened, with suffering, jealousy, and passion driving every scene. Set in a contemporary Mexican city with wealthy family estates, the series sits within the long Latin American soap tradition, and fans of Betty la fea, Cuidado con el ángel, and Rosalinda will find familiar pleasures in its romantic intrigue and family melodrama.

Audiences gave the telenovela a mixed reception, with its melodramatic romance and revenge plot drawing a middling audience score.
