With You and the Rain (2025) is a Japanese animated slice of life series produced in anime form, based on a manga and adapted for broadcast by a network of regional Asahi stations. It follows Fuji, a young single novelist, who on a rainy day meets a small creature that poses as a dog and offers her an umbrella along with a cue card asking to be taken home. Voiced by Saori Hayami as Fuji and Anna Mugiho as Kinako, the series builds its engine from ordinary domestic life: the everyday routines of a writer sharing her apartment with a mysterious, quietly charming companion, and the small adventures that grow out of their friendship across changing seasons. Its episodes unfold at an unhurried pace, favoring tea, books, and quiet rainy afternoons over plot urgency. The result is a soothing, wistful, and cozy viewing experience that foregrounds warmth and gentle humor. The twelve-episode run is a single, continuous season set in contemporary Japan. Fans of Mushishi, Wolf Children, and Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou will find resonance in its patient, tender atmosphere and its affection for ordinary life.
