The Sarah Jane Adventures

Sarah Jane Smith is a truly remarkable woman who inhabits a world of mystery, danger and wonder; a world where aliens are commonplace and the Earth is under constant threat. A world that Maria Jackson, a seemingly ordinary girl, can only dream of – until she moves in next door. Nothing will ever be ordinary again.

The Sarah Jane Adventures (2007-2011) is a British children's science fiction adventure series created by Russell T Davies for BBC One and CBBC, a spin off from Doctor Who. Elisabeth Sladen stars as Sarah Jane Smith, a former companion of the Doctor who now investigates alien threats from her house in west London. She is joined by teenagers Luke Smith (Tommy Knight), Clyde Langer (Daniel Anthony) and Rani Chandra (Anjli Mohindra), with Yasmin Paige arriving as Maria Jackson, the new girl next door who discovers that ordinary life is anything but. Their engine is simple and brisk: a mystery surfaces, the team tracks it through local streets and hidden alien technology, and they must stop it before it harms the community. The series runs five seasons of standalone adventures with occasional longer arcs, and its tone is warm, playful and earnest, with a nostalgic affection for the Doctor Who world. Its robotic dog K9 and the attic headquarters give it a gadget-filled charm. Fans of Doctor Who, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Torchwood will find resonance in its blend of family friendly scares, young heroes and a veteran guide.

Audiences rate the series positively, valuing its warm family-friendly alien adventures and the lead performance of Elisabeth Sladen.
