The Anatomy of a Moment (2025) is a Spanish-French historical political thriller miniseries created for Movistar Plus. Set during the night of February 23, 1981 in Madrid, it follows Prime Minister Adolfo Suárez (Álvaro Morte), Vice President Manuel Gutiérrez Mellado (Manolo Solo) and Communist Party leader Santiago Carrillo (Eduard Fernández), the three men who remain unmoved as armed Civil Guards storm the Congress of Deputies and fire shots into the air. Officer Antonio Tejero (David Lorente) leads the takeover, and the drama turns on the tense negotiations, quiet calculations and fragile alliances that unfold inside and around the chamber. Across four episodes of roughly forty-three minutes each, the series builds its suspense from rooms full of anxious deputies, corridors of wary officials and the careful choices of leaders who must decide how to hold the nation together. The tone is taut, restrained and contemplative, with a documentary-like seriousness about a young democracy testing its limits. Based on a novel and grounded in real events, it is a sober, dialogue-driven account of a moment that tested Spain's transition from dictatorship. Fans of Chernobyl and Il Divo will find resonance in its procedural tension and its portrait of political power under pressure.
