The New Scooby and Scrappy-Doo Show

The New Scooby and Scrappy Doo Show is the sixth incarnation of the Hanna-Barbera Saturday morning cartoon Scooby-Doo. It premiered on September 10, 1983, and ran for one season on ABC as a half-hour program made up of two eleven-minute short cartoons. The show is a return to the mystery solving format and reintroduces Daphne after a four-year absence. The plots of each episode feature her, Shaggy, Scooby-Doo, and Scrappy-Doo solving supernatural mysteries under the cover of being reporters for a teen magazine.

The New Scooby and Scrappy-Doo Show (1983) is a American animated mystery comedy series created by Ken Spears, Joe Ruby and Tom Ruegger for ABC. Produced by Hanna-Barbera as the sixth incarnation of the Scooby-Doo franchise, this single-season revival runs twenty-six half-hour episodes, each made of two eleven-minute cartoons. Shaggy Rogers (voiced by Casey Kasem) and Daphne Blake (voiced by Heather North) return to the mystery-solving format after a four-year absence, joined by Scooby-Doo and the brash young Scrappy-Doo, both voiced by Don Messick. The gang poses as reporters for a teen magazine and chases supernatural-seeming culprits through rural and urban locales, unmasking each one by the end of the episode. Its engine is simple: a spooky premise, a sequence of comic chases and a reveal that a human schemer was behind the disguise. The mood is breezy, playful and gently spooky, with a focus on slapstick and the chemistry of the gang. Fans of Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!, The Real Ghostbusters and The Mystery Files of Shelby Woo will find the same blend of kid-friendly scares, banter and case-of-the-week mysteries.

Audiences rated the single season as mixed, with the show seen as a lighter return to the classic Scooby-Doo mystery format.
