Overview
Fred, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy, and the talking dog, Scooby-Doo, travel on the Mystery Machine van, in search of weird mysteries to solve.
Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! (1969-1978) is an American animated mystery comedy series created by Joe Ruby and Ken Spears for ABC and CBS, produced by Hanna-Barbera. Fred, Daphne, Velma and Shaggy, voiced by Frank Welker, Heather North, Nicole Jaffe and Casey Kasem, travel the country in their psychedelic Mystery Machine van, hunting weird mysteries that look supernatural. Their engine is simple and repeatable: a spooky location, a ghostly or monstrous apparition, and a team of mismatched teenagers who split up, stumble into danger and eventually corner the culprit. Their talking Great Dane, Scooby-Doo, voiced by Don Messick, supplies the cowardly comedy and food-driven gags that keep each twenty-two-minute episode light. The series runs across three seasons and forty-one episodes, structured as a case of the week rather than one continuing story. Set in a contemporary American present, it carries a comforting, playful tone in which haunted houses and ghosts are played for laughs. Fans of The Real Ghostbusters, The Flintstones and Inspector Gadget will find similar kid-friendly, gently comic cartoon adventure.
What critics said
