Overview
That flashy girl from Flushing with the heart of an angel (and the voice of a slighty more nasal angel). The comic misadventures of the sweet and sassy Fran Fine, her sophisticated employer, Broadway producer Mr. Sheffield, his boisterous brood and his wisecracking staff.
The Nanny (1993-1999) is a American network sitcom created by Fran Drescher and Peter Marc Jacobson for CBS. Fran Drescher stars as Fran Fine, a sweet and sassy young woman from Flushing, Queens, who lands a job as nanny to the three children of Maxwell Sheffield (Charles Shaughnessy), a widowed Broadway producer living in a Manhattan townhouse. Daniel Davis plays Niles, the wisecracking, impeccably formal butler, while Lauren Lane appears as Maxwell's sharp-tongued associate C.C. Babcock, and Renee Taylor plays Fran's loud, meddling mother Sylvia. The engine of the show is the collision between Fran's brash, big-hearted working-class energy and the polished world of her employer, with each episode built from misadventures in the Sheffield household, romantic misunderstandings and the show-business schemes that spill into the home. Running for six seasons as a multi-camera sitcom with a studio audience, it moves at the rhythm of classic family comedy. The tone is breezy, warm and jokey, with a comforting, feel-good register. Fans of Who's the Boss?, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and Everybody Loves Raymond will find resonance in its mix of domestic chaos and affectionate family humor.
