Overview
After many years spent at the “Cheers” bar, Frasier moves back home to Seattle to work as a radio psychiatrist after his policeman father gets shot in the hip on duty.
Frasier (1993-2004) is an American multi-camera sitcom created by David Angell, Peter Casey, and David Clark Lee for NBC, and a spin-off of the bar comedy Cheers. Kelsey Grammer plays Frasier Crane, a snobbish radio psychiatrist who leaves the Boston bar scene behind and moves back to Seattle after his retired policeman father is shot in the hip on duty. He lives with his gruff, down-to-earth father Martin (John Mahoney) and his fussy, equally cultured brother Niles (David Hyde Pierce), and the household friction supplies much of the comedy. Daphne Moon (Jane Leeves), the father's live-in physical therapist, and producer Roz Doyle (Peri Gilpin) round out the principal cast. Across eleven seasons of twenty-four-minute episodes, the engine is simple: Frasier's pretentious advice on his call-in show keeps colliding with his messy private life, and each episode turns on a dinner party, a misunderstanding, or a rivalry that escalates with precise verbal wit. The tone is warm, erudite, and quietly affectionate beneath the sniping. Fans of Cheers, Mad About You, and The Nanny will find the same blend of sharp dialogue and domestic chaos.
