Slayers

Follows the exploits of the young sorceress Lina Inverse, whose life revolves around food, treasure, and fighting. After stealing treasure from a group of bandits, Lina is accosted by stragglers during her journey to the next town. She's not in any real danger, but a dim-witted but good-natured swordsman named Gourry Gabriev springs to her rescue anyways. The two team up, and head to Atlas City, fighting foes they encounter on the way. Unbeknownst to them, two mysterious figures are hot on their tail, and they are especially interested in the “treasure” Lina and Gourry have stolen.

Slayers (1995-2009) is a Japanese animated fantasy comedy adventure created by Hajime Kanzaka and Rui Araizumi for TV Tokyo, adapted from a light novel and produced by J.C.STAFF. The series follows Lina Inverse (voiced by Megumi Hayashibara), a young sorceress whose life revolves around food, treasure, and fighting. After she swipes loot from a band of bandits, she crosses paths with Gourry Gabriev (Yasunori Matsumoto), a dim-witted but good-natured swordsman who rushes to her aid, and the two form an uneasy partnership. Their journey along the road to Atlas City is built from episodic encounters with monsters, rival sorcerers and bandit gangs, while mysterious pursuers trail them with a keen interest in the treasure Lina has taken. Amelia (Masami Suzuki) and Zelgadis (Hikaru Midorikawa) join the cast as the story widens. Across five seasons and 104 episodes, the show balances bright slapstick, playful banter and spectacular spell battles with a steady undercurrent of fantasy adventure. Set in an invented fantasy world of towns, ruins and wilderness, it has a brisk, cheerful tone. Fans of Record of Lodoss War, Cowboy Bebop and Fushigi Yugi will find resonance in its blend of sorcery, swordplay and comic chemistry.
