Amrutham

Amrutham is a popular sitcom in Telugu. It was produced by Just Yellow Media. It was the longest running and most popular sitcom in Telugu.

Amrutham (2001-2007) is a Telugu-language Indian sitcom created by Gangaraju Gunnam for Gemini TV and produced by Just Yellow Media. Its title character, Amrutha Rao, is played across the run by Shivaji Raja, Naresh and Harsha Vardhan, with Gundu Hanumantha Rao as the good-natured Anjaneyulu, known as Anji, and Jhansi as Sanjeevini, called Sanju. Supporting roles include Ragini as Shantha, S. S. Kanchi as Ambujanabham and Sivannarayana Naripeddi as Appaji, with Inturi Vasu playing Sarveswaran, nicknamed Sarvam. The engine of the show is simple: a cast of ordinary neighbors and relatives keeps tripping over small schemes, misunderstandings and social embarrassments, and each of its 313 self-contained episodes turns those domestic frictions into a fresh comic set piece. Told as one ongoing sitcom rather than a continuing plot, it runs for a single long season of about twenty-five minutes per episode, making it the longest running and most popular sitcom in Telugu. The tone is warm, breezy and gently absurd, a comfortable family comedy in the tradition of Indian television farce. Viewers who enjoy Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, Sarabhai vs Sarabhai and the everyday comedy of Mr. Bean will find a similar pleasure in its familiar characters and easy, repeatable humor.
