The Dukes of Hazzard

Cousins Bo and Luke Duke and their car "General Lee", assisted by Cousin Daisy and Uncle Jesse, have a running battle with the authorities of Hazzard County (Boss Hogg and Sheriff Coltrane), plus a string of ne'er-do-wells often backed by the scheming Hogg.

The Dukes of Hazzard (1979-1985) is a American network action comedy series created by Rod Amateau and Gy Waldron for CBS, spanning seven seasons and 147 episodes of family friendly adventure. Tom Wopat plays cousin Luke Duke and John Schneider plays cousin Bo Duke, two good hearted outlaws who race their orange muscle car the General Lee around rural roads to dodge the schemes of the crooked county boss Boss Hogg (Sorrell Booke) and the bumbling Sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane (James Best). Catherine Bach joins as cousin Daisy Duke, while Denver Pyle plays Uncle Jesse, the family anchor. Each episode is built from a fresh local scheme, a pursuit, a chase and a jump, all stitched together by the Dukes' constant running battle with the county authorities. The result is a breezy, sunny, good natured romp with a Southern twang, set in a fictional rural Georgia county of the late twentieth century. Its tone is comforting and cheerful, with broad slapstick and a loyal family spirit at its core. Fans of Smokey and the Bandit, Knight Rider and The Andy Griffith Show will find familiar pleasures here in its small town mischief, stunt driving and easygoing humor.

Mixed audience reception, with the early and middle seasons rated well and the later seasons seen as weaker.
