The series was a satire to the communist rule in Poland, spoken in a way that it passed through communist censorship office.

4 Alternative Street (Alternatywy 4) is a Polish comedy miniseries broadcast by TVP in 1986, after its 1983 completion was delayed by state censorship. The series is a satirical portrait of communist-era life in Warsaw, set in a residential complex on Grzegorzewska Street where neighbors navigate shortages, petty officials, and the absurdities of a planned economy. Its principal cast includes Roman Wilhelmi as Stanisław Anioł, Bożena Dykiel as Miećka Aniołowa, Jerzy Bończak as engineer Marek Manc, and Stanisława Celińska as teacher Bożena Lewicka, whose ordinary ambitions and frustrations drive the nine episodes. Each hour-long episode is built from small domestic dilemmas and neighborly friction that reveal the wider system beneath them. The series runs as a single nine-episode season, with a dry, deadpan wit that hides its pointed criticism inside everyday comedy. Its tone is wry, warm, and quietly subversive. Fans of Yes Minister, Good Life, and Goodbye Lenin will find resonance in its satire of bureaucracy and its tender humor about ordinary people trying to live with absurd rules.
