Overview
With the strength of Hercules, the wisdom of Athena, the speed of Mercury and the beauty of Aphrodite, she’s Wonder Woman. Beautiful Amazon princess Wonder Woman travels to 1940s America disguised as Diana Prince, assistant to handsome but trouble-prone Major Steve Trevor. Using her golden belt, which imbues her with astonishing strength, her bullet-deflecting bracelets, a golden lasso that dispels dishonesty and an invisible supersonic plane, Wonder Woman combats evil.
Wonder Woman (1975-1979) is a US network superhero series created by Stanley Ralph Ross for CBS and ABC. Lynda Carter plays Amazon princess Diana Prince, who leaves her homeland to work as an assistant in 1940s America, where she battles villains while keeping her true identity hidden. Lyle Waggoner plays Major Steve Trevor, the handsome but trouble-prone officer she keeps rescuing, and Beatrice Colen plays Etta Candy, a cheerful presence in the office. Richard Eastham plays General Phil Blankenship, whose wartime bureaucracy often sends Diana into trouble. The engine of each episode is simple: a spy, saboteur, or criminal schemes against the United States, and Diana uses her golden belt for strength, bullet-deflecting bracelets, a golden lasso that compels truth, and an invisible supersonic plane to stop them. The series runs three seasons and roughly sixty episodes as an episodic adventure with a sincere, colorful comic-book tone. Its wartime period setting gives the pulpy action a nostalgic glow. Fans of Batman (1966), The Bionic Woman, and Xena: Warrior Princess will find a similar pleasure in earnest, mythic heroism.
