Around the World With Willy Fog

Willy Fog is a British millionaire who bets that he will be able to go around the world in only eighty days.

Around the World with Willy Fog (1983) is a Spanish-Japanese animated adventure miniseries created by Claudio Biern Boyd, produced with Nippon Animation and broadcast on La 1. Based on Jules Verne's novel, it follows the wealthy British gentleman Willy Fog (voiced by Claudio Rodríguez), who bets his fellow club members that he can travel around the globe in only eighty days. Accompanied by his resourceful French valet Romy (Gloria Cámara) and an assortment of companions including Rigodón (Manuel Peiró) and the young Tico (José Moratalla), he races from port to port across continents, meeting rival schemers, rough sailors and unexpected hazards at every stop. Each episode is built around a new city, a new means of transport and a new obstacle that threatens the wager. The series runs for a single season of twenty-six episodes, moving briskly through its journey with a gentle, whimsical register. Its tone is warm, breezy and optimistic, with an emphasis on loyalty, ingenuity and the pleasures of discovering distant places. Set in the late nineteenth century, it carries the nostalgic charm of classic children's television. Fans of Around the World in 80 Days, Heidi, Girl of the Alps and Dogtanian and the Three Musketeers will find similar resonance.

Audiences rate this 1983 animated adaptation of Jules Verne's novel positively, valuing its faithful adventure spirit and lighthearted globe-trotting.
