Overview
Candice Renoir had put her career on standby for 10 years. When she returns from Singapore to resume service in a port town in the south of France, she feels a bit “rusty”. Despite the obvious defiance of her unit and a cynical superior who doesn’t make her job any easier, she is determined to turn her so-called weaknesses into strengths, solving the most complex cases with her common sense, her acute observation and her practical nature seasoned by a busy daily routine. Only Candice can catch a killer because she knows the chemical composition of a window-cleaning product or determine the hour of a murder from the cooking-time of kebabs… Candice is only naive on the outside, and nobody can resist her!
Candice Renoir (2013-2022) is a French national-television police procedural comedy created by Solen Roy-Pagenault, Robin Barataud and Brigitte Peskine for France 2. Cécile Bois plays Candice, a single mother and police officer who returns from a ten-year posting in Singapore to a unit in a port town in the south of France. Her colleagues resist her, and her cynical superior Antoine Dumas (Raphaël Lenglet) makes her job harder, yet she turns her supposed rustiness into strength. Her engine is quiet ingenuity: she reads a murder from a window-cleaning product's chemistry or the cooking time of kebabs, and she tracks suspects through a busy daily routine of family, friends and small-town friction. Each episode is a self-contained case, and the series runs ten seasons of roughly ten episodes each, with the cast including Chrystelle Da Silva (Gaya Verneuil) and Valentine Atger (Yeelem Jappain). The tone is breezy, warm and gently comic, with an unassuming heroine whose underestimated competence wins over colleagues and viewers alike. Fans of Death in Paradise, Murder, She Wrote and Hercule Poirot will find a similar comfort in a clever outsider solving crimes with humility and wit.
