You Are All Surrounded

P4: are the new recruits in the violent crimes unit at Gangnam Police Station. The journey of four young cops as they fumble, learn, fall in love and find their way to becoming people the citizens can trust.

You're All Surrounded (2014) is a South Korean police drama series created for SBS, a single-season limited run of twenty one-hour episodes. Lee Seung-gi plays Eun Dae-gu, one of four young recruits in the violent crimes unit at Gangnam Police Station, and the show follows him alongside his fellow rookies as they fumble through their first cases. Cha Seung-won, Go Ara, and Ahn Jae-hyun round out the principal cast as the seasoned officers and fellow newcomers who shape the rookies' work and private lives. The engine of the series is the slow, awkward process of becoming competent: each episode is built around a investigation the recruits must learn to handle, with mistakes that cost them and small victories that earn them trust from the people they serve. Romance threads run alongside the casework, so personal feelings complicate professional duty throughout. The atmosphere mixes lighthearted banter and sincere warmth with the grit of urban crime, giving the series a hopeful, earnest register. Fans of Hill Street Blues, Vagabond and Brooklyn Nine-Nine will find resonance in its ensemble of rookies, its blend of humor and procedural stakes, and its belief that institutions can be trusted when the people inside them keep trying.
