Filinta: An Ottoman Policeman (2014-2016) is a Turkish historical crime drama series created by Altuğ Küçük, Yusuf Esenkal and Serdar Öğretici for TRT 1. Its protagonist, the sharp and skillful young policeman Filinta Mustafa (Onur Tuna), serves alongside his orphaned best friend Bıçak Ali (Cem Uçan) in a city policed by a fragile institution. Their story begins with a conspiracy aimed squarely at the two of them, and the engine of the show is their effort to clear their names and unmask those behind it while navigating palace politics and dangerous criminal networks. The learned kadı Gıyaseddin, a former mentor of the Sultan, offers a measured counterweight of wisdom and reason. The series spans two seasons across fifty-six episodes of ninety minutes each, with each hour built around an investigation that feeds a larger serialized conspiracy. Set in nineteenth century Ottoman Istanbul, it draws on the grandeur of palace corridors, crowded bazaars and shadowy back streets. Its tone mixes thriller tension with warmth in the bond between its leads, and its themes of justice, loyalty and camaraderie give it a classical, earnest register. Viewers who enjoy Ertugrul and Mehmed: Bir Cihan Fatihi, or who want a period crime story with the grit of Peaky Blinders, will find resonance in its blend of history and investigation.
