Night and Day

Working on a series of harrowing cases, forensic pathologist, Sara Grau, finds the key to a case in which she has unwittingly become a prime target. Sophisticated Spanish crime thriller.

Night and Day (2016-2017) is a Catalan-language Spanish crime thriller series created by Lluís Arcarazo and Jordi Galceran for TV3. Forensic pathologist Sara Grau (Clara Segura) works through a run of harrowing cases in Barcelona, and the thread she follows leads back to her own life: she has unwittingly become a prime target. Around her, principal characters including Lluís Forés (Pablo Derqui), Pol Ambrós (David Verdaguer) and Fermí Cases (Mario Gas) shape the investigation and its risks. The series runs two seasons across twenty-six episodes of fifty minutes each, with a serialized through-line that keeps each case tied to the larger threat. Its engine is the tension between clinical forensic work, with autopsies, evidence and careful reasoning, and the danger creeping toward Sara. The tone is sophisticated, tense and sober, with a dread that builds steadily rather than exploding. Viewers who enjoy Bones, The Killing and The Bridge will find the same mix of procedural detail and personal stakes. Its grounded Spanish crime style suits viewers who want a thoughtful thriller with real emotional weight.
