Shut Eye (2016-2017) is a American dark comedy crime drama series created by Leslie Bohem for Hulu. Former magician Charlie Haverford (Jeffrey Donovan) oversees a network of storefront fortune telling parlors in Los Angeles on behalf of his violent, domineering Romani kingpin boss, a job that depends on fleecing desperate clients with staged visions and cold readings. When a blow to the head jolts him into a new mindset, he begins to doubt everything he has ever believed about his trade, his family and the criminal world that controls him. Isabella Rossellini plays Rita Marks, and Angus Sampson, David Zayas and KaDee Strickland fill out the principal cast around him. The series runs for two seasons and twenty episodes, with each hour moving between cramped parlor back rooms, family gatherings and tense negotiations with dangerous underworld figures. Its storytelling blends sardonic humor with grim, morally compromised violence and the bleak pull of a life built on lies. Fans of Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul and Burn Notice will find resonance in its crime-family pressure and its wry, cynical view of hustlers.

Audiences found the darkly comedic take on Los Angeles storefront psychics and their crime syndicate an offbeat, uneven ride, rated positively by viewers overall.
