Overview
In a world where superheroes have been real for decades, an accountant with zero powers comes to realize his city is owned by a super villain. As he struggles to uncover this conspiracy, he falls in league with a strange blue superhero.
The Tick (2016-2019) is a American superhero comedy series created by Ben Edlund for Prime Video. Accountant Arthur Everest (Griffin Newman), who has no superpowers at all, discovers that his city is quietly owned by a super villain, and he teams up with the strange, earnest blue superhero known as The Tick (Peter Serafinowicz). Together with Arthur's sister Dot Everest (Valorie Curry), they dig through a conspiracy hidden in a world where costumed heroes have been a fixture for decades. The engine of each half-hour episode is Arthur's ordinary, paperwork-bound struggle against extraordinary people, with the Tick's booming confidence cutting against every grim turn. Superian (Brendan Hines) and Miss Lint (Yara Martinez) fill out the heroic ensemble, while the villainous Overkill (Scott Speiser) and The Terror (Jackie Earle Haley) escalate the threat. The series runs two seasons and 22 episodes, with the second season carrying the story forward at the same level of quality as the first. Its tone is absurdist, deadpan, and sincerely goofy, a superhero parody with bursts of violence and dark humor. Fans of Venture Bros., Mystery Men, and The Boys will find resonance in its blend of satire and irreverence.
