Reinikainen

The work and life of Finnish police officer Artturi Sakari Reinikainen.

Reinikainen (1982-1983) is a Finnish comedy series created for Yle TV2 and streamed on Yle Areena, a national-television workplace comedy that follows police officer Artturi Sakari Reinikainen (Tenho Saurén) through the daily routines of his station. Alongside him, principal colleagues Taisto Hautamäki (Pentti Kultala) and Sven-Bertil Ek (Mauri Kuosmanen) fill out the squad, with Antero Jänkälä (Seppo Maijala), Olavi Kataja (Antti Seppä), and Aili Hinkka (Tuija Vuolle) rounding out the cast. The engine of the show is the mundane texture of police life: routine cases, paperwork, and the personal entanglements that spill into the officers' off-duty hours. Each episode is built from small incidents rather than sweeping plots, giving the series an episodic rhythm. Shot in a plain, unhurried style, the series leans on understated humor, quiet awkwardness, and warm observation of its characters. Its atmosphere is modest and wry, grounded in the everyday rhythms of a Finnish town. Viewers who enjoy Hill Street Blues, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and Wallander will find a kindred interest in ordinary policing seen with affectionate humor. Fourteen half-hour episodes make up its single season.
