The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

It’s 1958 Manhattan and Miriam “Midge” Maisel has everything she’s ever wanted - the perfect husband, kids, and Upper West Side apartment. But when her life suddenly takes a turn and Midge must start over, she discovers a previously unknown talent - one that will take her all the way from the comedy clubs of Greenwich Village to a spot on Johnny Carson’s couch.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (2017-2023) is an American period comedy-drama series created by Amy Sherman-Palladino for Prime Video. Rachel Brosnahan plays Miriam "Midge" Maisel, a Upper West Side housewife whose life collapses when her husband Joel (Michael Zegen) leaves her, forcing her to start over. Her sharp-tongued manager Susie Myerson (Alex Borstein) pushes her toward the stage, and Midge's raw, confessional material draws crowds in the Greenwich Village comedy clubs. Tony Shalhoub plays her father Abe Weissman, a professor whose steady presence anchors the family. Each season is a continuing story rather than standalone episodes, moving through the grimy clubs, glossy Manhattan apartments and fashion-conscious backstage life of the late 1950s and early 1960s. Rapid-fire banter, warm family friction and a buoyant sense of reinvention give the show its breezy, sentimental register. Fans of Gilmore Girls and Fleabag will find resonance in its verbal wit and female-driven ambition. The five-season run, with its vivid period costumes and lush production design, ends on a note of hard-won self-determination.

Audiences broadly acclaim the show's sharp writing, rapid-fire dialogue, lead performance and period craft, though the later seasons are seen as less tight.
