Rocko's Modern Life

Rocko is a wallaby who has emigrated to America from Australia. He lives in O-Town and tries to get through life but, of course, comes across a multitude of dilemmas and misadventures he must get through. Other characters include Rocko's best friend, Heffer, a steer who has been raised by wolves, Filbert, a paranoid hypochondriac turtle, Rocko's faithful (but none-too-bright) dog Spunky, and Ed Bighead who detests Rocko and hates having him for a next door neighbor. On this show, Rocko has such adventures as trying to adapt to a new vacuum cleaner, having Heffer move in temporarily after his parents kick him out, and going to a movie theater.

Rocko's Modern Life (1993-1996) is an American animated sitcom created by Joe Murray for Nickelodeon. Rocko is a wallaby who has emigrated from Australia to the American city of O-Town, where he tries to get through ordinary days that keep spiraling into misadventure. His best friend Heffer, a steer raised by wolves, and the paranoid hypochondriac turtle Filburt give him allies, while his dim but loyal dog Spunky adds slapstick, and his hostile neighbor Ed Bighead makes every fence line a battlefield. Each twelve-minute episode is built from small domestic crises: a new vacuum cleaner that becomes a menace, Heffer moving in after being thrown out by his parents, a trip to the movie theater. The series runs four seasons and one hundred episodes, playing as a case-of-the-week cartoon with a running undercurrent of corporate conglomeration and bureaucratic absurdity. Its tone is gentle and wry, with surreal gags and a sincere affection for its outsider characters. Fans of The Simpsons, Ren & Stimpy and Dexter's Laboratory will find resonance in its blend of cartoon chaos and suburban satire.

Audiences broadly rate the series positively, remembering its absurd humor, offbeat characters and sharp satire of suburban life and corporate culture.
