My Roommate is a Cat

Getting a roommate is the last thing an eccentric author like Mikazuki would do, until a stray cat sparks an idea for his next novel. After plucking the little killer off the streets, Mikazuki is inspired in ways he would have never expected

My Roommate is a Cat (2019) is a Japanese slice of life anime series produced by Zero-G and aired on AT-X. Across a single season of twelve episodes, the eccentric novelist Subaru Mikazuki, voiced by Kensho Ono, lives a solitary and disorganized life until a stray cat he rescues from the streets, Hachi, voiced by Ayumu Murase, arrives in his apartment. The engine of the show is the uneasy domestic adjustment between a writer who wants quiet to finish his work and a small, demanding animal who refuses to be ignored. Each episode is built from ordinary moments: meals, walks, visits from friends and family, and the small disruptions of sharing a home. Mikazuki's routine slowly reshapes around the cat, and his next novel begins to take shape from their daily encounters. The tone is gentle, warm and wistful, with comic beats that give way to quiet emotional reflection. Adapted from a manga, the series is a modest, cozy watch whose appeal rests on its affectionate portrait of an unusual household. Fans of Barakamon and Bocchi the Rock! will find resonance in its patient character focus and soft-spoken humor.
