Wise Man's Grandchild

A young man is reborn in another world where he is adopted as a baby by the hero Merlin Wolford and named Shin. By his 15th birthday, Shin has accumulated all kinds of power by studying under Merlin, but one thing his adoptive grandfather didn't give him was a lick of common sense.

Wise Man's Grandchild (2019) is a Japanese isekai fantasy comedy anime produced by Silver Link and broadcast across AT-X, ABC TV, TOKYO MX and BS11 as a single 12-episode season. A young man reborn in another world is adopted as a baby by the legendary hero Merlin Wolford (voiced by Yusaku Yara) and named Shin (voiced by Yusuke Kobayashi). By his fifteenth birthday Shin has gathered formidable magic and combat skill, but his grandfather never taught him basic common sense, and that gap drives the show's comic engine. Episodes unfold around his enrollment at a boarding school where training, rivalry and romance collide with demons and military politics, and his companions include August von Earlshide (Shohei Komatsu) and Sicily von Claude (Rina Honnizumi). The tone is breezy and lighthearted, with a warm, playful energy, and the series leans into fighting spectacle and school-life banter. Fans of the isekai reincarnation comedies Re:Zero and That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime will find a familiar pleasure in its overpowered protagonist and fantasy school setting, presented in an invented world rather than any historical era.

Audiences rate the series mixed, appreciating its comedic take on a overpowered reincarnated protagonist while finding the premise's execution uneven.
