The L Word: Generation Q

In this sequel to The L Word, we continue to follow the intermingled lives of Bette Porter, Alice Pieszecki and Shane McCutcheon, along with a new generation of diverse, self-possessed LGBTQIA+ characters experiencing love, heartbreak, sex, setbacks and success in L.A.

The L Word: Generation Q (2019-2023) is a United States premium cable sapphic drama series created by Ilene Chaiken for Showtime. It is a sequel to The L Word and follows Bette Porter (Jennifer Beals), Alice Pieszecki (Leisha Hailey) and Shane McCutcheon (Kate Moennig) as their lives remain tangled with a new circle of younger queer characters. Among the newcomers, Dani Nunez (Arienne Mandi), Micah Lee (Leo Sheng), Sarah Finley (Jacqueline Toboni) and Sophie Suarez (Rosanny Zayas) pursue love, careers and friendships across Los Angeles, and each episode is built from their romantic entanglements, workplace ambitions, setbacks and small victories. The show runs for three seasons of ten episodes each, with one continuing thread of relationships rather than a case-of-the-week structure. Set in present-day Los Angeles, its atmosphere is glossy yet candid, mixing sexual frankness with warm, talky intimacy and a sense of diverse community. Its frank, character-driven tone and interpersonal drama will appeal to viewers who enjoyed the original series, and fans of The L Word, Looking and Queer as Folk will find resonance in its blend of romance, friendship and queer urban life.

Audiences rated the series positively, with its warm, frank portrayal of queer friendships and romance across a diverse young cast praised as a worthy continuation of the original.
