The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.: Reawakened

Kusuo and his gaggle of self-proclaimed friends are back for more psychic mishaps. If he didn't have enough problems before, he's got even more now.

The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.: Reawakened (2019) is a Japanese original net animation comedy series created for Netflix, produced by J.C.STAFF and EGG FIRM. It follows Kusuo Saiki, a high school student whose telepathy and psychokinesis are so powerful that he wants nothing more than an ordinary, unnoticed life. Voiced by Hiroshi Kamiya, he is worn down by a gaggle of self-proclaimed friends who keep dragging him into escalating psychic mishaps. Ai Kayano voices the classmate Kokomi Teruhashi, whose attention Kusuo would rather avoid, while Daisuke Ono and Nobunaga Shimazaki voice the other eccentrics orbiting his days. The engine of the show is simple: every episode sets up an absurd problem that Kusuo could solve in a second and must instead solve quietly, with a sigh. The six-episode season runs about 23 minutes per episode and is a self-contained, episodic run of short sketches built around a single deadpan premise. Its tone is dry, brisk and affectionate, with a narrator who explains Kusuo's inner exasperation. Set in a present-day Japanese high school, it parodies shounen battle anime while keeping their bright visual energy. Fans of Mob Psycho 100, Gintama and Nichijou will find resonance in its mix of supernatural spectacle and everyday absurdity.

Audiences find the deadpan parody of psychic high school life consistently funny, with a sharp pace across its short run.
