Mother of the Goddess' Dormitory

Down-on-his-luck Koushi Nagumo wanders the streets unemployed, homeless and in search of his next meal. His fortunes improve after a chance meeting with a vivacious young woman whose proposition seemingly solves nearly all his problems. Thanks to her, Koushi enters the welcoming halls of a dormitory at a women’s college… only this particular assignment is no stuffy, sleepy affair. The Goddess’ Dormitory is known for housing the college’s most unruly students! If he wants to keep a roof over his head, Koushi must become the “Dormitory Mother” charged with maintaining order and good discipline. But doing his job and keeping his sanity are no small feat with characters as endearingly eccentric and untamable as these!

Mother of the Goddess' Dormitory (2021) is a Japanese animated comedy series based on a manga and aired on AT-X, a harem comedy with a slice of life edge. Down-on-his-luck Koushi Nagumo (voiced by Misuzu Yamada) goes from homelessness to the job of dormitory mother at a women's college residence known for its most unruly students. Voiced by Asaki Fukuyama as Frey, Hikaru Nanjo as Sutea Khoroya and Ayaka Nanase as Atena Saotome, the eccentric residents keep pulling him into chaos as he tries to keep a roof over his head and his sanity intact. The engine of each episode is a run of small domestic crises, romantic complications and clashing personalities inside one busy building. The series is a single ten-episode season, with each installment largely self-contained and light in plot momentum. Its tone is breezy and risqué, with fan service foregrounded and a comedic, flustered register throughout. Fans of Love Hina, Ranma and Shuffle will find a familiar mix of dormitory antics and romantic farce, though this one leans more heavily on ecchi suggestion than its peers. Reviews are mixed, with viewers divided over the fan service and the lead's whining.

Audience reception is mixed, with viewers enjoying the comedic dormitory premise and fan service while objecting to its suggestive content and the protagonist's characterization.
