More about the show
Overview
After the end of the Beast Wars, the Maximals awaken on their home planet of Cybertron and are chased by mindless Vehicons created by Megatron. The Maximals must free the planet from Megatron and restore it to its real way of living.
Beast Machines: Transformers (1999-2000) is a Canadian-American animated science fiction series created for FOX, YTV and Fox Kids, a two-season sequel to the Beast Wars line. Optimus Primal (voiced by Garry Chalk) leads the Maximals, a band of beast-altered robots who awaken on their home planet of Cybertron after the Beast Wars and find themselves hunted by mindless Vehicons built by Megatron (David Kaye). Cheetor (Ian James Corlett), Blackarachnia (Venus Terzo) and Rattrap (Scott McNeil) join the struggle, and each half-hour episode is built around skirmishes, scavenging and pursuit across a ravaged machine world as the rebels try to free the planet and restore it to its true way of living. The engine is a steady rebellion against a tyrant and his drone army, told in a serialized arc where order matters. The tone is urgent and action-driven, with a darker, more mechanical edge than its predecessor, though the heroism and camaraderie keep it accessible for children. Fans of Transformers: Beast Wars, Transformers: Generation 1 and Voltron: Defender of the Universe will find resonance in its robot factions and rebellion storyline. Its two seasons of thirteen episodes each make a compact, complete arc with a bittersweet close.
