Madagascar: A Little Wild

The early years of the Madagascar heroes Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Melman the Giraffe and Gloria the Hippo, as they grow up in a rescue habitat at the Central Park Zoo.

Madagascar: A Little Wild is an American animated family comedy spin-off that returns to the characters of the Madagascar films in their younger days. It follows the lion Alex, the zebra Marty, the giraffe Melman and the hippo Gloria as they grow up together in a rescue habitat at the Central Park Zoo. Their concerns are simple and childlike: they want to belong, make friends and get through the everyday mishaps of young animal life, while zoo keepers, supporting animals and the rules of the habitat supply small obstacles. Each episode is a self-contained slice of life, stacking short comic adventures and gentle friendship lessons. Set in a bright, cheerful version of present-day New York City, the show feels cozy, playful and wholesome, with a warm, uplifting register suited to young children. Fans of Madagascar, Bluey and Peppa Pig will find resonance in its light humor and affectionate portrait of early friendship.

Reviewers find it a gentle, charming preschool spin-off that suits its young audience but offers little for older viewers.
