Mieruko-chan

She can see dead people…she just chooses to ignore them. That’s Miko’s plan, anyway, with horrifying (and sometimes hilarious) results.

Mieruko-chan (2021) is a Japanese animated supernatural comedy series, a single-season anime adapted from a manga and broadcast on AT-X. Its protagonist, high school student Miko Yotsuya, voiced by Sora Amamiya, can see dead people and has settled on a simple strategy: ignore them. Her friends Hana Yurikawa (Kaede Hondo) and Yuria Niguredo (Ayane Sakura) form the core of the school life around her, while her family, including her brother Kyousuke Yotsuya (Yumiri Hanamori), adds domestic warmth to the chaos. The engine of each episode is Miko's attempt to keep up a normal teenage routine while spirits intrude on classrooms, streets and home life, with the comedy coming from how awkwardly she maintains her composure. The twelve episodes are self-contained encounters strung across one school year, shaped more by character moments than by a single plot. The tone is light and deadpan, with flashes of unease that stay more eerie than frightening. Set in a present-day Japanese high school, the show sits within the shounen and slice of life traditions. Fans of Jujutsu Kaisen, Kakuriyo: Bed and Breakfast for Spirits and Ghost Hunt will find familiar blends of spiritual encounters and gentle school humor here.

Viewers find it a charming slice of life with horror trappings, with a slow first half and a stronger, heartfelt second half.
