Ghost Hunt

Telling ghost stories is a favorite past time of Mai Taniyama and her friends—that is, until she meets 17-year-old Kazuya Shibuya, the man sent by Shibuya Psychic Research Center to investigate paranormal activity at a supposedly haunted school. When Mai gets caught in a dangerous situation, she is rescued by Kazuya's assistant. Saving her lands the assistant incapacitated, and Kazuya demands that Mai become his assistant, instead...

Ghost Hunt (2006-2007) is a Japanese animated supernatural mystery series created for TV Tokyo and produced by J.C.STAFF, running for a single season of 25 episodes. Mai Taniyama, a schoolgirl who enjoys telling ghost stories with her friends, is drawn into the world of the Shibuya Psychic Research Center when she meets Kazuya Shibuya, a seventeen-year-old investigator with a cool, exacting manner. Voiced by Kaori Nazuka and Yuuki Tai, the two form the core of a team completed by the sharp-tongued Lin Kouujo, Ayako Matsuzaki, and John Brown. Each episode builds around a haunted location, such as a supposedly cursed school, where the group tests spiritual claims against evidence and sifts rumor from genuine danger. The format is a case-of-the-week investigation, but the cases gradually connect into a longer arc that deepens the team's bonds and the mysteries behind Kazuya. The mood is eerie and contemplative, with a tension that comes from doubt about whether a haunting is real or manufactured by people. Fans of Mononoke and Kekkaishi will find resonance in its blend of occult atmosphere, teenage protagonists, and rational investigation of the uncanny. It suits viewers who like spooky, thoughtful mysteries rather than outright horror.

• Durarara!!supernatural mystery with a team of investigators confronting spirits and curses
• Kekkaishioccult detective format with eerie atmosphere and rational-versus-supernatural tension
