Kamen Rider Black Sun

The year is 2022. It is an era of chaos, half a century after the government announced the coexistence of humans and kaijins. Aoi Izumi, a young human rights activist calling for the elimination of discrimination, meets a man named Kotaro Minami, the one called "Black Sun," who is a candidate for the next Creation King.

Kamen Rider Black Sun (2022) is a Japanese tokusatsu superhero miniseries produced by Toei and released on Prime Video. Set in 2022, half a century after the government declared that humans and kaijins would coexist, the ten-episode run follows young human rights activist Aoi Izumi (Kokoro Hirasawa), who campaigns against discrimination and meets Kotaro Minami (Hidetoshi Nishijima), a man known as Black Sun and a candidate for the next Creation King. Their paths pull them into a world where kaijin monsters and cyborgs collide with a secret organization and rival powers. Nobuhiko Akizuki (Tomoya Nakamura), who becomes Kamen Rider Shadowmoon, complicates every alliance. The engine is a hero's quest to define justice in a society where the line between good and evil is contested, with each episode pairing action set pieces with political maneuvering. The show is a single continuing season with a darker, more adult register than typical Kamen Rider fare, and its tone is grim, visceral, and morally troubled. Fans of Watchmen, The Boys and Kamen Rider Amazons will find resonance in its grounded politics and bleak take on the superhero myth.

Audience reception is mixed, with viewers appreciating the bold superhero reimagining and its darker political undercurrents while finding parts of the story uneven.
