Overview
In 1989 the two most famous plumbers from Brooklyn burst out of the Nintendo game world and onto television screens across America. The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! aired weekday afternoons and brought Mario, Luigi, Princess Toadstool and King Koopa more thrilling adventures as cartoon characters. And if that weren't enough, each episode also contained live-action segments featuring Mario and Luigi running their Brooklyn plumbing shop - all before they were flushed down a drainpipe into the Mushroom World.
The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! (1989-1989) is an American syndicated animated comedy series created by Bob Forward, Reed Shelly, Phil Harnage and Bruce Shelly for Syndication. Brooklyn plumbers Mario (Louis Albano) and Luigi (Danny Wells) escape the Nintendo game world and step onto television, where their cartoon adventures unfold alongside live-action segments of the brothers running their plumbing shop before they are pulled into the Mushroom World. King Koopa (voiced by Harvey Atkin), Toad (John Stocker) and Princess Toadstool (Jeannie Elias) drive the bright, playful conflicts of each episode, with the brothers chasing schemes, rescues and goofy mishaps across a single season of sixty-five episodes. The engine of the show is simple: the heroes want to protect their kingdom and keep their business running, while Koopa's plots keep getting in the way. Each episode is a brisk, self-contained caper built for afternoon viewing. The tone is breezy, cheerful and cartoonishly silly, with a deliberate wink to fans of the games. Fans of Captain N: The Game Master, Pinky and the Brain and Who Framed Roger Rabbit will find a similar mix of video game nostalgia, kid-friendly comedy and playful live-action blending. The result is a nostalgic, colorful lark for children and grown fans alike.
