Dave the Barbarian

This animated comedy series is set in the Middle Ages and follows the title character, Dave, in his comedic adventures with his family (his sisters, Candy and Fang) as they protect themselves and their family from a world of oddball foes. Dave himself combines strength with an appreciation of the finer things in life, including origami, bird watching, and even gourmet cooking.

Dave the Barbarian (2004-2005) is a Canadian-American animated fantasy comedy created by Doug Langdale for Disney Channel. Voiced by Danny Cooksey as the title hero, Dave is a powerfully built warrior who also loves origami, bird watching and gourmet cooking. He is joined by his sisters Candy (Erica Luttrell) and Fang (Tress MacNeille), along with the household voices of Estelle Harris as Lula, Kevin Michael Richardson as Uncle Oswidge and Frank Welker as Faffy. Their engine is simple: keep the family safe while a steady stream of eccentric, oddball foes keeps turning up at their door. Each twenty-two minute episode is a self-contained misadventure, making this a single season of forty-one episodes with a light, cheerful, deadpan-tinged register. Set in a loosely medieval world, the show spins its humor from the clash between brute force and genteel tastes. Its kid-friendly sensibility and gentle silliness will appeal to viewers who enjoy the playful medieval fantasy of Gargoyles or the offbeat absurdity of Courage the Cowardly Dog and Adventure Time.

Audiences rate the single season as a lighthearted, witty fantasy comedy with a mixed overall aggregate reception.
