School Rumble

High school can be hard enough with just academics alone, but when love enters into the picture, it can unravel into a comedy of errors. Tenma has fallen for oblivious Karasama and class delinquent Harima has fallen for Tenma. While this unlikely trio winds their way through the pitfalls of love and high school life, their friends and classmates become caught up in the chaos.

School Rumble (2004-2006) is a Japanese anime romantic comedy series created for TV Tokyo, adapted from a manga. Tenma Tsukamoto (voiced by Ami Koshimizu) has fallen for the oblivious Karasama, while the class delinquent Kenji Harima (voiced by Hiroki Takahashi) has fallen for Tenma, and the three of them wind through the awkward pitfalls of teenage love at school. Their classmates, including Eri Sawachika (voiced by Yui Horie) and Mikoto Suou (voiced by Hitomi Nabatame), get swept into the escalating chaos, so each episode is built from misunderstandings, schemes, and slapstick set-pieces around the school grounds. The show runs for two seasons and fifty-two episodes, presenting one continuing romantic storyline rather than standalone adventures. Its tone is bright, breezy, and farcical, with sincere moments of longing wrapped in exaggerated comedy. Set in a contemporary Japanese high school, it has the warmth and ensemble energy that fans of Kaguya-sama: Love Is War and Ouran High School Host Club will recognize, along with the goofy chaos of Love Hina.

Audiences rate School Rumble positively, praising its lively comedy of romantic misunderstandings and its large ensemble of classmates.
