Overview
Cyborg cop Alex Murphy, with his partner Officer Anne Lewis fight to save the city of Old Detroit from assorted rogue elements, and to reclaim aspects of his humanity.
RoboCop: The Animated Series (1988) is an American animated science fiction series created by Edward Neumeier and Michael Miner, a twelve-episode miniseries of thirty-minute episodes. Cyborg cop Alex Murphy, played in the cast by Dan Hennessey as Robocop, patrols the crime-ridden city of Old Detroit alongside his partner Officer Anne Lewis (Susan Roman). Murphy's engine is a push-pull between his duty to clean up the streets and his struggle to hold on to the human identity that was stripped from him. Each episode is built around a fresh wave of rogue criminals and gang schemes, with action set pieces and police pursuits driving the plot forward while the larger mystery of the city's corruption simmers in the background. The tone is brisk, kinetic and pulpy, with a cyberpunk sheen of neon-lit streets, underground tunnels and a corrupt police establishment. The series grew out of the 1987 film and carries its gritty, violent spirit into a younger-skewing cartoon format. Fans of the original RoboCop film, Batman: The Animated Series and Total Recall will find resonance in its blend of cyborg heroics and dystopian urban crime. Its audience reception was modest and its story ends without resolution.
