Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future

Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future is a 1987–88 Canadian-American science fiction/action television series, merging live action with animation based on computer-generated images, that ran for 22 episodes in Canadian and American syndication.

Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future (1987-1988) is a Canadian-American science fiction action series created by Tony Christopher and Gary Goddard, produced in syndication with Mattel among its production companies. Tim Dunigan plays Captain Jonathan Power, leader of a future military squad of space marines that includes Jessica Steen as Corporal Jennifer Chase, Peter MacNeill as Major Matthey Masterson, and Sven-Ole Thorsen as Lieutenant Michael Ellis. Their engine is a long-running war against an artificial intelligence rebellion, with the soldiers fighting battles across hostile worlds and facing a shadowy villain played by David Hemblen. The series is a single season of 22 episodes, each running about thirty minutes, and its signature is the blend of live action performers with computer-generated animated imagery. The tone is earnest and brisk, with bright action set pieces and a clear heroic-versus-machine conflict. Set in a future of starships and combat, it carries the look of 1980s toy-driven adventure. Fans of Starcom: The U.S. Space Force, Robotech and Mighty Morphin Power Rangers will find resonance in its blend of military adventure and youthful spectacle.

Remembered as an ambitious but dated 1980s experiment whose blend of live action and computer-generated animation was innovative for its time, though its execution and effects have aged.
