Beelzebub

Violent delinquent Oga encounters a baby one day, which crawls onto his back and immediately forms an attachment to him. Though he doesn't know it yet, this baby is named Kaiser de Emperana Beelzebub IV, or "Baby Beel" for short—the son of the Demon Lord!

Beelzebub (2011-2012) is a Japanese shonen anime series produced for Japanese television and based on the manga of the same name. Violent delinquent Oga Tatsumi, voiced by Katsuyuki Konishi, is a high school brawler whose life is upended when a baby crawls onto his back and attaches itself to him. The infant is Baby Beel, voiced by Miyuki Sawashiro, the son of the Demon Lord, and Oga must keep him safe while still dealing with rival fighters and the chaos of school life. Principal supporting characters include his loyal friend Furuichi Takayuki, voiced by Takahiro Mizushima, and classmate Aoi Kunieda, voiced by Aki Toyosaki. The engine of the series is a steady stream of comic set pieces: fights that escalate absurdly, demon-world threats that drop into everyday school days, and Oga's gradual, reluctant shift from brawler to surrogate parent. Each episode is a self-contained slice of comedy, and the series runs for a single season of sixty episodes. Its tone is warm, funny and frequently chaotic, with a supernatural edge and a heart that grows as the episodes pile up. Fans of Kekkaishi, Ranma 1/2 and other supernatural shonen comedies will find much to enjoy in its mix of brawling, demon antics and affectionate found family.

Viewers rate Beelzebub as a warm, funny shonen anime whose slow start pays off, though its final episodes are seen as superfluous.

• Ranma ½shared slapstick supernatural school comedy with demon elements and a powerful young protagonist
