Overview
A blue-collar family man grapples with life's challenges while trying to maintain his marriage, raise his young daughter, and deal with the eccentricities of his friends and neighbors.
Lucky Louie (2006) is an American HBO adult sitcom created by Louis C.K. that runs for a single season of thirteen half-hour episodes. Louis C.K. plays Louie, a blue collar family man trying to keep his marriage together and raise his young daughter while his volatile wife Kim, played by Pamela Adlon, pushes back against his missteps. Jim Norton plays Rich, one of Louie's crude and eccentric friends, and Mike Hagerty and Jerry Minor add to the ensemble of neighbors and buddies whose strange habits constantly complicate ordinary days. The engine of each episode is small domestic friction: a botched household chore, an awkward night out, a bad decision with the guys, and the fallout at home. Episodes build around a family that cannot quite afford its own ambitions. The show uses the unpolished rhythms of a stand-up comic, with long awkward pauses, blunt language and wincing discomfort. Its tone is raw, deadpan and self deprecating, with warmth showing through the mess. Fans of Married with Children, The Honeymooners and Louie will find resonance in its working class domesticity and cringe-prone humor. The result is a sharp, uneven, intimate comedy about marriage and parenthood.
