Robotech (1985) is a United States syndicated animated science fiction series created from three Japanese anime series produced in 1982-1984 and assembled by Harmony Gold into an 85-episode run. Pilot Rick Hunter (voice by Tony Oliver) and his rival Roy Fokker (voice by Dan Woren) fly experimental mecha built from Robotechnology, scientific advances recovered from an alien starship that crashed on a South Pacific island. Lynn Minmay (voice by Rebecca Forstadt), a singing idol, becomes the emotional center of a romance that keeps colliding with war, while Lance Belmont (voice by Cam Clarke) and Dana Sterling (voice by Melissa Newman) carry the military and personal stakes. The engine of the show is simple and relentless: each episode builds around a battle, a tactical gamble, or a scramble to protect civilians as Earth's defenses are pushed through three successive extraterrestrial invasions. The series plays as one continuous saga across three seasons, with serialized arcs that reward sustained viewing. Its tone mixes earnest heroism, melodramatic romance, and bursts of sweeping space battle spectacle, the blend fans of Macross and Mobile Suit Gundam will recognize. Set in a future Earth, it offers the operatic, big-hearted science fiction that defined a generation of television animation.

Viewers broadly regard Robotech as an acclaimed, ambitious space saga whose mecha battles and sweeping romance-driven drama hold up across its three story arcs.
