Vakáción a Mézga család (1980) is a Hungarian animated satirical adventure series created by József Nepp, Béla Ternovszky and József Romhányi for Magyar Televízió. Its hand drawn comedy follows the Mezga family through summer vacation escapades: a mysterious uninhabited island that may not be uninhabited after all, a neighbour, Dr. Máris Ottokár, who is angling to become the next Minister of Health, and an escape from the captivity of the mafia. The engine of each episode is the family's knack for drifting into trouble, with the father Mezga Géza and mother Mezgáné Rezovits Paula leading the bickering household, while Mezga Aladár, Mezga Kriszta and the narrator keep the misadventures moving. Told in a single thirteen-episode season of roughly twenty-six minutes each, the show is a sequence of self-contained road and island escapades rather than one continuing arc. Its tone is absurd, playful and sardonic, with satirical jabs at bureaucracy and power. Set in an invented summer holiday world rendered in classic hand drawn animation, it sits in the tradition of satirical family cartoons. Fans of The Simpsons, Futurama and Dexter's Laboratory will find resonance in its comic energy.

Regarded as a cult classic of Hungarian animation, admired for its sharp satirical wit and inventive hand-drawn comedy.
