Temperature of Love

An aspiring screenwriter's online romance with a French chef turns complicated when a persistent business partner vies for her attention.

Temperature of Love (2017) is a South Korean romantic comedy series created by Ha Myung-hee and broadcast on SBS. Aspiring screenwriter Lee Hyun-Soo (Seo Hyun-jin) begins an online romance with a French chef, On Jung-Sun (Yang Se-jong), and the connection moves toward real life as the story unfolds. Her path is complicated by Park Jung-Woo (Kim Jae-uck), a persistent business partner who keeps competing for her attention, and her own uncertainty about love and work. The series runs as a single season of forty half-hour episodes, a light, continuing romantic story rather than a case-of-the-week format. Its engine is the push and pull between a long-distance romance that feels promising and a rival who is always close by, while the everyday pressures of creative work and a kitchen-centred life fill each episode. Set in contemporary Seoul, it leans on warm, cozy and wistful tones, with gentle humor and a sense of healing. Viewers who enjoy Korean romcoms in the vein of Crash Landing on You, Boys Over Flowers and Something in the Rain will find familiar pleasures in its romantic triangle and food-tinged atmosphere.

Audiences gave it a mixed but generally warm reception, appreciating its romantic chemistry and food-centered setting while finding the love triangle uneven.

• Crash Landing on Youromcom tone, slow romantic triangle, food and kitchen setting
