Mr. Iglesias

Hilarious high school teacher Gabriel Iglesias tries to make a difference in the lives of some smart but underperforming students at his alma mater.

Mr. Iglesias (2019-2020) is a American single camera comedy series created by Kevin Hench for Netflix. Stand-up comedian Gabriel Iglesias plays a fictionalized version of himself, Gabe Iglesias, a hilarious high school teacher returning to his alma mater to reach smart but underperforming students. Jacob Vargas plays fellow teacher Tony Medina, a sounding board who keeps Gabe grounded, while Sherri Shepherd plays Principal Paula Madison, whose institutional expectations collide with Gabe's unorthodox methods. Richard Gant, Cree, and Coy Stewart round out the staff and student circle. Each half hour episode is built from classroom mishaps, faculty politics, and the comic personality of a teacher who speaks directly to the camera, pulling the audience into his plans. The engine is simple: a man who wants his students to believe in themselves, and a school that measures success in test scores and discipline. The tone is breezy, warm, and irreverent, with a sincere core about mentorship and second chances. Across three seasons and twenty-one episodes, the show mixes stand up style punchlines with gentle school drama. Fans of Welcome Back, Kotter and Better Off Ted will find a similar comic warmth and workplace bite.

Audiences find the show consistently funny, with its comedian lead's stand-up energy carrying a mixed-to-positive reception.
