The Crew

When the owner of the fictional NASCAR Bobby Spencer Racing team steps down and passes the team off to his daughter Catherine, the crew chief has to protect himself and his crew from her attempts to modernize.

The Crew (2021) is a United States single-season Netflix sitcom created by Jeff Lowell. Kevin James stars as Kevin Gibson, the veteran crew chief of the fictional NASCAR Bobby Spencer Racing team, who must protect himself and his crew when team owner Catherine Spencer, played by Jillian Mueller, takes over from her father and begins pushing to modernize every corner of the operation. Sarah Stiles and Gary Anthony Williams round out the crew as the sharp-tongued and loyal members of the garage, while Freddie Stroma and Dan Ahdoot bring youthful energy to the pit. Each episode is a half-hour of workplace friction, with the stubborn old guard stalling every new idea and the new boss gamely pushing back, the engine of the show being the gap between tradition and progress. Its tone is breezy and affectionate, with gentle bickering and comfortable sitcom rhythms rather than high-stakes racing drama. Ten episodes make up the complete run, and the series is light, easygoing comedy in the vein of Last Man Standing and The Office, with a workplace ensemble whose quirks are the main pleasure. Fans of ensemble office comedy and motorsport fans looking for an easy watch will find it a comfortable, low-stakes half hour.

Audiences gave the single season a mixed-to-positive reception, mainly for its lighthearted workplace comedy and cast chemistry.
