Shadows House

A faceless clan lives in a large mansion, masquerading as nobles. Their caretakers are living dolls who spend their days cleaning up the dirt the tenants leave behind. But there’s a deeper mystery at play… and the secret of the house will be unveiled.

Shadows House (2021-2022) is a Japanese anime mystery series created for television and produced by CloverWorks and Aniplex, adapted from a seinen manga. A faceless clan lives in a sprawling gothic mansion, masquerading as nobles to the outside world, while its caretakers are living dolls who spend their days cleaning up the dirt the tenants leave behind. The engine of the show is a steady accumulation of small uncanny details that press the viewer toward a deeper secret about the house and its inhabitants. Each episode moves the mystery forward through quiet domestic routines, eerie encounters and recurring servants whose lives are shaped by obedience and artifice. The series runs two seasons across twenty-five episodes of roughly twenty-four minutes each, forming one continuing story rather than standalone cases. Set in an unsettling, timeless European-style manor, it is measured and atmospheric, with a melancholic, eerie register and a slow unfolding of the house's hidden nature. Fans of Mononoke, The Haunting of Hill House and Another will find resonance in its supernatural dread, its gothic household setting and its patient, layered mystery.

Audiences rate the anime positively, praising its eerie mystery and gothic atmosphere while noting that the second season's rating dipped.
