Swarm

Murder. Sex. Music. This is not a work of fiction.

Swarm (2023) is an American satirical crime dark comedy miniseries created by Donald Glover and Janine Nabers for Prime Video. Dominique Fishback plays Dre, a young Black woman whose devotion to a famous pop star, played by Billie Eilish, slides into a violent fixation that drives a trail of killings. Dre's life is built from fan forums, group chats and the rituals of online devotion, and the story follows how her need to belong and be seen pulls her further from the people around her. Each of the seven episodes of this limited series moves the story forward through a new encounter, so the escalation feels like a single rising wave rather than separate cases. Supporting players including Chlöe Bailey and Damson Idris widen the frame to show the people caught in Dre's orbit. The tone swings between sharp comedy and brutal crime, with a glossy, unsettling pop-music surface that hides real dread. Fans of You, The King of Comedy and Pretty Little Liars will find kinship in its portrait of fixation and celebrity worship, though its satire is sharper and its violence more graphic than most. Set in contemporary America, it is a seven-episode study of fame, obsession and the cost of being someone's number one fan.

Critics and audiences found the series a mixed, provocative satire of fandom and celebrity obsession, with a striking lead performance undercut by uneven tone.
