Star Wars: Tales of the Empire

A journey into the fearsome Galactic Empire through the eyes of two warriors on divergent paths.

Star Wars: Tales of the Empire (2024) is an American animated science fiction anthology miniseries created by Dave Filoni for Disney+. Spanning six episodes of roughly seventeen minutes each, it follows two warriors on divergent paths into the fearsome Galactic Empire, tracing how ambition and loyalty pull them toward the dark side. Voice performances include Lars Mikkelsen as Admiral Thrawn, Matthew Wood as General Grievous, Xander Berkeley as Gilad Pellaeon, and Diana Lee Inosanto as Selena, anchoring the imperial military and political world. The engine of the series is the pressure of ruthless imperial hierarchy: each protagonist chases status, power, or survival while rivals, superiors, and the Empire's cold machinery stand in the way. Episodes are compact action-driven vignettes with clean animation and sweeping starship and battlefield staging. Tone is grim yet stylish, with tension and moral compromise underscoring the adventure. Fans of The Clone Wars, Star Wars: Visions, and Black Mirror's standalone structure will find resonance in its concise, self-contained stories set within a single galaxy-spanning regime. Its brief, focused episodes make it an accessible entry point into the franchise.

Audience reception is mixed, with viewers appreciating the stylish animation and return to the Empire era while finding the two-story structure uneven.
