B'T X

After years of absence, Teppei’s joyous reunion with his brother is cut short when the two brothers are attacked. When his brother is kidnapped, Teppei gives chase only to find himself cornered in a junkyard when a miracle appears. His spilled blood awakens the legendary B’t X.

B't X (1996-1998) is a Japanese animated mecha series created for TBS, a 39-episode anime produced by Kyokuichi-Tokyo Movie. When a joyful reunion with his brother is cut short by an attack and a kidnapping, young Teppei Takamiya (voiced by Nobuyuki Hiyama) gives chase into a junkyard, where his spilled blood awakens the legendary machine B't X, voiced by Jin Horikawa. The engine of the show is a rescue quest: Teppei wants his brother back, and the enemies who took him stand in the way, forcing him to pilot the awakened robot again and again. Kotaro Takamiya (Nozomu Sasaki) and Karen (Megumi Ogata) anchor the human side of the story, while rival machines and their pilots escalate each conflict. The show runs across two seasons, following a continuing storyline with action set pieces in each episode. Its tone is earnest, energetic and heroic, with a sense of family loyalty and sacrifice running beneath the robot combat. Fans of Mazinger Z, Mobile Suit Gundam and Getter Robo will find the same bonded-machine spectacle and shonen heart here.

Audiences rate the series as mixed, with an average score of around 6.9 out of 10 and the first season rated 6.0.
