Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions!

As one of the thousands of Japanese students afflicted with "chunibyo," a state where they're so desperate to stand out that they've convinced themselves that they have secret knowledge and hidden powers, Yuta spent most of his middle school years living in a complete fantasy world. He's finally managing to overcome his delusions but his chunibyo have attracted the attentions of another sufferer, and she's decided that this makes him her soul mate.

Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions! (2012-2014) is a Japanese anime slice of life romantic comedy produced by Kyoto Animation and broadcast on TOKYO MX and Sun TV. Yuta Togashi (Jun Fukuyama) is a high school student trying to outgrow the secret-powers fantasy life he lived through middle school, while Rikka Takanashi (Maaya Uchida), a fellow sufferer of the condition called chunibyo, is convinced he is her soul mate and pulls him back into her imagined world. Their dynamic is the engine of the show: he wants a normal school life, she wants a partner in her self-made mythology, and each episode is built from everyday school club activities, schoolyard misadventures and small social embarrassments. Supporting characters including Shinka Nibutani (Chinatsu Akasaki), Sanae Dekomori (Sumire Uesaka) and Kumin Tsuyuri (Azumi Asakura) fill out the club life around them. The show runs across two seasons and twenty four episodes, a single continuing story rather than a case of the week. Set in a contemporary Japanese high school, it is a warm and playful comedy with a sincere romantic undercurrent and an affectionate eye for teenage self-dramatization. Fans of K-On!, Bakemonogatari and Oregairu will find resonance in its blend of quirky heroines, awkward crushes and gentle absurdity.

Audiences broadly rate the series highly for its comedic take on adolescent fantasy and its warm, character-driven romance, with both seasons holding strong audience ratings.
